A rag grinder was installed in 2015 replacing the rag filters in the sludge feed piping to the centrifuges. This device improves efficiency in centrifuge operation and improves health conditions for workers.
In the past – the sludge used to be discharged into the centrifuges and the rags were caught in a filter. Once each day, the centrifuges were shut down, workers opened the cover of the filter and extracted the rags.
Now – the rags are milled in the rag grinder and enter the centrifuge with the sludge. The centrifuges operate nonstop as there is no need to extract the rags from the filter.
