During sludge treatment in the digester tanks, methane gas is produced as a byproduct of decomposition. This gas has high caloric content and is collected in a gas holder with a double membrane designed for this purpose. The gas is used to operate a turbine that produces electricity and supplies about one-half of the total electrical consumption of the treatment plant.
