Approximately 105,000 m³ of sanitary and industrial wastewater reaches the treatment plant each day… The wastewater treatment process is divided into three principal stages: pretreatment, secondary treatment and tertiary treatment.
Pre-treatment: Mechanical treatment that includes coarse filtration of wastewater, settlement of sand and grit (settlement of heavy particulates) and preliminary settlement that includes the removal of some suspended solids and organic material.
Secondary treatment: Biological treatment in which a process of decomposition of organic material in the wastewater, removal of suspended solids, and sludge sedimentation takes place.
Tertiary treatment: Filtration of effluents and disinfection in order to eradicate pathological microbes.
